   Dirk-
   this photo was posted along with 2 others at Spitting Image (http://www.spitting-image.net/archives/000088.html ), and some commentary. Apparently some think this particular image was doctored (it does look that way).

   Well, I thought -and still do- that this is an interesting photograph. It is also an interesting and highly effective use of photography, given the cause.

   As for manipulation, I am not sure whether it is (compare to http://video.seashepherd.org/video/taijislaughter.MPG ) and if an increase of colour saturation or change of colour tone to a nice blood red would already count as such. And does it really matter?

   Those who claim that such manipulation diminishes the objectivity of the image fail to recognise, that the “subjectivisation” has already happened when the picture was taken. Secondly after being bombarded with engineered images on a daily basis, we still seem to believe that a photo doesn’t lie.
