With regards to Richard in Holland. I hope you don’t mind me putting it here, it is just that this simply stunning image has been on my mind since yesterday.

I am honored that you published and link my photograph. This is really interesting. Just before I developed that roll of film I was talking to friend and telling him: “You know I just did too many new things this time, didn’t really plan anything and maybe that will bring some nice result”.
And here you go, new lens, new film (one year expired) never developed/used before and such a nice result.
In a e-mail Dirk we were talking bout shooting a lot (in my case), I believe I wouldn’t have this shot if I just made one or two shots that morning. This one is actually only one which is quite good. The other shots from the same roll which I also exposed at the same horse and not very good. So burning one roll for the one image that you like is a good price, I think

I like the idea of not planning anything. I try to do it all the time. I think it is the essence of street photography.
Letting go of control is an art and skill in itself. It takes time to master.

I must tell you that most of the time I am planning. When I go out I have image I want to take in my head already. So I am only looking for good place. Most of the time I even know how such a place should look and where it is.
Because I take camera with me almost always I take pictures also when I do not plan. But I am getting better results when I know what I am after so I have my plan.
The shot of the horse was done unplanned while riding on my bike to work. I saw morning weather and I have put 100ASA film in camera and new lens and say let’s see if I get something on my few minutes way to work.

As an aside, I think many people in Japan are very jealous about your way to work. Instead of crowded trains and a long journey, you have a bike ride in the fields with horses etc. Unthinkable. Well, I am jealous anyway.

Yes I am quite lucky in that sense also here. A lot of people spend morning in traffic jams. But let’s see if you can answer question: How many cars you can see on the Horse picture? Maybe it is too difficult for 600px image, but anyway. If you will have a good answer, free print for you
