Another person enjoying a moment of peace while the world rushes by. I like the way the character on the right, ticket in hand, extends beyond the edge
of the photo while the main character is nicely framed. The sort of unconventional almost "messy" composition that works perfectly for me.

In Dirk's photo i see a crowd watching a soccer match. most of them hold
up a banner with the name of the local club which they are cheering for.
On of of the banners it says SEXY. in the forefront a young girl with
attentive eyes glances over to us. the sporty moment is undoubtful,
though the photo lacks a bit the element of surprise.

A classic street-shot. The man in the "shirt" stands out very nicely against everyone else that is passing by and all wearing dark tops. I like the way the mannequins look back at the man so confidently.

From a technical standpoint I like the tonal range of this image. It's a nice slice of life as a crowd gathers to watch him play a game. It's odd that this many people would stop to watch him which adds to the interest and mystery of what he's playing. My only wish is that the man in the suit was separated out so he's not growing out the man's head in the foreground.

Yes, the fashionable young white dude deciding which of the toys will be his for the night. (What’s with these long haired young white guys and white shirts anyway? And what’s with their invisible left hands?) I like the OOF figure in the front, the guy turned toward the in-focus mannequin, and the attractive headless torso over the dude’s left shoulder (not cropped by the photog of course), and I always like night time B&W shots. But the “one for” idea has to hit me in the head and this one didn’t.

My first thought is that that's a lot of unoccupied urban space for Tokyo. The truck so big and taking up a lot of that foreground space reminds me of Hiroshige's 100 Views of Edo series. The way he's been caught in between the truck and its mirror is intriguing, in a way trapping him there although there's so many places he could roam. Of course what's really keeping him there, momentarily no doubt but could be an eternity, is his intereraction with you. You're important enough for him to stop lighting his cigarette, assess how he's going to deal with this intrusion into his cognitive space he wasn't expecting. So in a way, emotionally he also has no ability to roam. Cognitive dissonance. Contender.

Not really sure about the 'twilight' connection here but this one made me laugh. The sleeping man, the woman with her shoulders scrunched up as she is trying to dial the phone with what little seating space is left to her, and finally the book (?) that the guy is holding. The scene asks more questions than it answers, a fun one to look at. Hard to tell if it's on a train or subway or what?

Express Delivery! The bottom guy is flat enough to be packaged. Striking image, a little understated, made me look carefully to see all that was happening, and I'm not sure I found it all.

absent is the person the woman is speaking with on the cellphone. her expression does not indicate the presence of absence to me, there is not much feeling in it. the light on her face is pleasant, and would have attracted me to photograph her. [ Winner | Other entries ]
